Wednesday in the Octave of Easter
Reflection
The Emmaus disciples are walking the wrong direction - away from Jerusalem, away from the community, away from hope. Their posture is past tense: we were hoping. Then a stranger joins them and reframes everything.
This is the pattern of every Mass. Word, then table. Scriptures opened, then bread broken. Heart burning, then eyes opened. If Mass feels like going through the motions, you might be the Emmaus disciples before the stranger shows up. Stay at the table. The recognition comes in the breaking.
